It was announced today. The sale was for $60 million dollars, which I would think was more on the cheap side of things ($15 million per Turtle). I wonder if this was a sale done just to unload the property for an immediate cash influx? I would think $100 million would be a more realitic number...think about how much the franchise must bring in.

Anyway, there is also something else to consider. Marvel Comics currently airs the "Iron Man" and "Wolverine and the X-Men" shows on the Nicktoons network, and I suspect they will eventually find their way to the Disney XD station. Could this Nickelodeon/TMNT deal have been made so Nick can keep a superhero presence on their Nicktoons channel? I suspect that may have been a factor in the decision.

It's another interesting major move in the comic book world this year...

I think your intsincts are correct... and actualy pretty darn keen. I mean, there's nothing to stop Marvel shows from moving entirely to Disney airtime. Even if that wasn't part of the plan, then Marvel could just as easily twist Nickelodeon's arm into giving them "a more favorable agreement," in lieu of having to switch networks. Nickelodeon might have just made the smartest pre-emptive business deal in the history of their company.

I mean let's face it... everybody knows the Ninja Turtles. I don't know a person who can't sing one bar of the 80's theme song upon request. And the franchise as a whole has been mutating and adapting to newer generatons with laughable ease. I look back at the premise of their backstory now and think, "How did that ever fly?" But then... the ninja is an awesome thing for any youth to behold... now a mutant ninja? That's teenaged? Sold. And the "Turtles recipe" has always had a certain magical element of comedy. (Neither too much, nor too little) As a result, even girls can get into Ninja Turtles without ruining any fun for the boys.

Maybe that's a factor as well, Bill. You have already pointed-out how good Disney is at capturing the female demographic. Perhaps Nickelodeon is purposely fighting the war on two fronts here. Maybe. But the combined weight of Marvel and Hannah Montanna is probably still more of a force than the conveniently-agile Turtles franchise. So Nickelodeon had better keep those Nicktoons coming. The Ninja Turtles will help them tremendously, but they can't carry the channel alone.
